A
DANDY 40" CURL DALL SHEEP TAKEN IN THE WRANGELS BY GRANDPA BERNHARDSON
AT AGE 65
John
and Hardson took their dads, both in their mid 60's, on a sheep hunt just
for the experience of hunting in the mountains. They had much better luck
than anyone had aticipated. Grandpa B's ram was only 6 1/2 years old. Its
huge body size indicated it was from the gene pool that produced the world
record ram, which was taken only a few miles away. This was indeed a great
trip for the guys.
This
hunt took place about 30 miles south of Seward. A boat is needed to reach the
area. On their way, the guys get a close look at a pod of killer whales. App
was bowhunting and had a couple shots, but didn't connect. Poncho had better
luck. The beauty of the country as seen from the mountain tops was worth the
trip.

NICE MOUNTAIN GOAT TAKEN BY PONCHO IN THE MOUNTAINS ALONG THE COAST OF THE
GULF OF ALASKA
Clam
digging on the tidal flats of Cook Inlet is often a family affair. Razor clams
are the target on this trip. These clams are abundant, and the kids enjoy pulling
them out of the sand after the parents dig the hole.
YOGI
BEING PULLED ON A SKIBOB BY SIBERIAN HUSKIES
The
power of these dogs is amazing. Yogi weighs 260 pounds, and the dogs pull him
around like he weighs nothing. Riding behind these dogs on the trails near Anchorage,
with their tight
curves and steep hills,
can be quite thrilling. A particularly big hill lends itself to some interesting
and entertaining stunts. The dogs belong to Buns, who ran the Anchorage Fur
Rendezvous Sled Dog Race with them, a number of times.
