Most
of my pieces are visual reflections of personal experiences to which
I have responded. These experiences, if special, often result in a work
that tries to elicit a similar response in the viewer.

Prints by Keith Appel,
a resident of Alaska for over 40 years, typically have an Alaskan theme. Keith
has two major interests, art and the Alaska outdoors. He has great experience
in both of these areas. He began his Alaska experience teaching art in the
Anchorage school system, and then went on to become a professor of art at
the University of Alaska, Anchorage. He has always been an avid outdoorsmen.
His interest in Alaska wildlife has resulted in strong feelings for the animals
of Alaska. His interest in outdoor activities has provided inspiration for
many of his prints. The prints, being offered on this website, are the products
of Keith's wonderful artistic talents and his strong feelings for the Alaska
outdoors.

Bull Cans is

Midwinter
Miracle is my reaction to the
concept of life and its rejuvenation. It is not enough to understand chromosomes
and genes and cellular structures. There is something greater and to me overwhelming
in its complexity and conversely in its simplicity. It is life itself.

The
Porch is a very personal work. The porch is, in
fact the porch on my own "duck shack" or duck hunting cabin. The decoy used
as a model was carved by my Great Uncle. The duck call was made by my Grandfather.
The hat belonged to my Father. The shotgun was given to me in a will by a
different Great Uncle. The boots are mine, however, I prefer to see this as
my "roots" piece.
